Dani Carvajal has vowed to come back "like a beast" after confirming he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in Real Madrid's win over Villarreal.

In second-half stoppage time, the 32-year-old was stretchered off with a knee injury – something that reduced him to tears. The Spain international then posted on Instagram from an ambulance that he will have surgery and would be out for a "few months".

The post reads: "Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed, I'm going to have to go through surgery and be off the field for a few months. Already looking forward to starting recovery and coming back like a beast. Thank you all so much for your messages, I feel very loved. 🤍."

Cruciate ligament injuries can rule a player out for a matter of months to a year, depending on the severity of the problem. Carvajal is a serial winner, is Madrid's first-choice right-back, and will be a huge loss going forward for Carlo Ancelotti's side.
