Kingmakers, one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, has been hit with an indefinite delay. Though the exact timing of its market debut is now uncertain, Kingmakers developer Redemption Road Games offered some consolation to fans by indicating that the title should still launch in the near future—and promising the wait will be worth it.
Originally announced in February 2024, Kingmakers is a distinctive project that combines medieval warfare with modern weaponry into an RTS-shooter hybrid. As of early October 2025, it is ranked as the sixth most-wishlisted game on Valve’s storefront, based on data scraped by SteamDB. Redemption Road Games previously committed to an October 8 release date for Kingmakers.
Kingmakers Hit With Indefinite Delay Due to Need for Further Polish
The much-anticipated medieval game with guns has now been delayed mere days ahead of its planned launch. Redemption Road announced the postponement in an October 3 tweet, all the while apologizing to fans eager to jump into Kingmakers. “We are sorry for letting you down,” the prepared statement reads. The indie developer cited a need for further polish as the chief reason for the delay, while also reiterating some ambitious goals that its debut title is aiming for.
Redemption Road says Kingmakers pushes the Unreal Engine 4 codebase “to its absolute limits,” delivering massive maps with thousands of combatants, seamless drop-in co-op multiplayer, and elaborate physics serving as the basis for an intricate damage and destruction system. At the same time, the studio is trying to create a highly optimized experience, capable of hitting 60 frames per second even on mid-range PCs. These lofty targets are proving to be a challenge to hit, hence the newly announced delay. However, Redemption Road remains confident it can deliver on all fronts, saying its technical goals are as ambitious as they are because 80% of its team are engineers “who got into this business to push technological barriers.”
Though indefinite delays can be disappointing to fans, the developer’s statement suggests this particular postponement is not a result of any major setback. If more polish is all that is needed, Kingmakers may receive a new release date before long. As previously announced, the project is set to launch through the Steam Early Access program, arming Redemption Road with player feedback and extra funding to help refine the game, building up to its eventual 1.0 release.
Kingmakers doesn’t just blend settings but also genres, having been described as a mixture of real-time strategy and third-person shooter games. It will be published by the Netherlands-based tinyBuild but is still waiting for an official price tag. No other platforms beyond PC have yet been confirmed for the game.
